A Unique Vineyard

Since the 1880’s the McLaughlin’s’ have been one of the pioneering families in the Warren region of NSW. Well before producing wines, the McLaughlin’s of the last 4 generations, were renowned for producing award winning Merino sheep on their historic ‘Merryanbone Station’.

In the 1990’s Vigneron Shane McLaughlin, discovered that the soil and climate were ideal for grapes. So the pioneering spirit of the McLaughlin’s was again roused and they planted a vineyard which began a new wine region in the area.

The Canonbah Bridge vineyard covers 80 acres which is surrounded by an eight foot Kangaroo fence; on the family’s 30,000 acre sheep station.  It is situated on what was the bend of a river some 2000 years ago. The coarse sandy soils are rich in alluvial deposits and are unique to the remainder of the farm.

The Region

Located at an altitude of 200m above sea level with an arid climate, the region provides a combination of long, warm ripening days and conversely cool nights.

Its isolation safeguards the vineyard from disease spread while the dry climate eliminates mould and fungal issues, enabling a chemical free approach to the vines.

The specific mesoclimate of Canonbah Bridge vineyard has been preserved without interference, ensuring natural immunity.

Canonbah Bridge wines are sold in in 8 countries worldwide as well as in Australia.

The flag ship Canonbah Bridge Drought Reserve Shiraz has been nominated for the ‘George Mackey trophy’ for best wine exported out of Australia.
