Ripe History

The Canonbah Bridge vineyard covers 80 acres which is surrounded by an eight foot Kangaroo fence; on the family’s 30,000 acre sheep station.  It is situated on what was the bend of a river some 2000 years ago. The coarse sandy soils are rich in alluvial deposits and are unique to the remainder of the farm.

In the 1880’s Shane McLaughlin’s great grandfather marked out the site to grow wheat on, knowing it was special. Over 100 years later, the family consulted a soil expert on where to plant the vineyard.  Using modern technology he chose the very same parcel of land!

Over half the vineyard is dedicated to Shiraz which thrives in the semi-desert conditions. Other varietals include Merlot, Grenache, Mourvedre, Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Tempranillo.
